EVP and CFO Sean Quinn explained that the increased spend was consistent with plans to invest in mid- and upper-funnel channels. He noted that while U.S. cost-per-click was up 50% in peak holiday weeks for consumer products, it was actually down in Europe. He reiterated that the company held to its marginal return thresholds, but the higher unit pricing for ads in the U.S. meant the spend had less impact on new customer acquisition than in the prior year.
