Chairman Sun's questions to Posco Holdings Inc (PKX) leadership • Q2 2025
Question
Chairman Sun from Antu Securities asked for POSCO's assessment of China's steel production reduction plans, questioning whether it would result in actual production cuts or merely a downsizing of mills. He also inquired about the cash cost and price level required for the POSCO Argentina lithium business to become profitable and demonstrate its competitiveness.
Answer
The Head of Marketing Strategy responded that while there are high hopes for a decrease in Chinese steel production capacity, the outcome remains uncertain due to the influence of private steelmakers, and the company continues to monitor the situation. Regarding the Argentina lithium business, an executive explained that the plant is still in its year-long ramp-up phase, making it too early to provide a definitive cash cost. However, he noted that if lithium prices go beyond nine dollars, it becomes more beneficial to increase production.
