Ed [Unknown]'s questions to GrafTech International Ltd (EAF) leadership • Q2 2025
Question
An analyst inquired about the state of European graphite electrode capacity and whether any competitor facilities have been permanently shut down.
Answer
CEO Timothy Flanagan responded that he does not believe any capacity has been permanently removed from the market. He noted that while one competitor plant was sold to a fund, its future is uncertain, and most European capacity continues to run at low utilization rates. He contrasted this with GrafTech's success in increasing its own utilization to 65%.
