James Jang's questions to NORDIC AMERICAN TANKERS (NAT) leadership • Q4 2016
Question
James Jang from Maxim Group asked about plans for older vessels considering upcoming environmental regulations like ballast water treatment. He also questioned if older tonnage receives lower rates, the short-term rate outlook given new deliveries, and the company's preference for shipyards.
Answer
Chairman & CEO Herbjørn Hansson stated that environmental regulations are manageable, as vessels can use low-sulfur fuel and the ballast water treatment installation can be postponed for five years with proper planning. He reiterated that high-quality older vessels do not get lower rates and dismissed short-term rate concerns, emphasizing long-term strategy. He expressed a preference for familiar shipyards but remained pragmatic based on terms and quality.
