Nicholas Booth's questions to Perma-Fix Environmental Services Inc (PESI) leadership • Q3 2024
Question
Nicholas Booth asked about the prospect and timeline for Perma-Fix to grout supplemental low-activity waste at Hanford, given that the DOE's DFLAW facility has insufficient capacity for the total waste volume.
Answer
Mark Duff, Executive, confirmed the DFLAW facility's capacity limitations and stated that the DOE intends to implement a grouting program for the West Area tank farms. While a large extraction system for this is being procured, it will be several years before it is operational. Duff noted that Perma-Fix is strongly positioned as the local off-site treatment option for this waste. However, the DOE's interim plans before the new system is online remain undefined, with hopes that the new administration will accelerate a decision.
