Question · Q3 2025
Sophia Karp asked how FirstEnergy envisions state-level policymakers responding to rising consumer energy costs and whether there is sufficient momentum for these efforts to be addressed in upcoming legislative sessions.
Answer
Brian Tierney, Chair, President, and CEO, stated that FirstEnergy is concerned about rising costs and is engaging with regulators and legislators to identify causes and mitigate increases. He highlighted advocacy against PJM capacity auctions and the exploration of alternative mechanisms, such as a two-tiered structure, to attract new capacity. He believes there is significant attention across unregulated jurisdictions, expecting plans for mitigation and enactment in the near term.
