Mark Carhart

Mark Carhart is the Founding Partner and Chief Investment Officer of Kepos Capital, L.P., a New York-based quantitative investment management firm founded in 2010. At Kepos Capital, he leads all aspects of investment strategy, research, and portfolio management, with a focus on systematic and alternative investments across global equities, macro, and multi-asset strategies.

Prior to founding Kepos Capital, Mark served as Co-Chief Investment Officer of the Quantitative Investment Strategies Group at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, overseeing more than $185 billion in assets at its peak and managing portfolios spanning global equities, factor-based investing, and risk premia. With earlier roles as Assistant Professor of Finance at USC’s Marshall School of Business and experience at Dimensional Fund Advisors and Mercer Global Advisors, his expertise bridges academic finance and applied quantitative investing.

Dr. Carhart holds a PhD in Finance and Econometrics from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a BA in Economics from Yale University, and is a CFA charterholder. He is renowned for his research contributions, particularly for the Carhart four-factor model, which added momentum as a critical driver of equity returns, cementing his influence in empirical asset pricing and quantitative portfolio management.
