John Martin

John Martin currently serves as President and Investment Advisor at Gate City Capital Management LLC, headquartered in Lynchburg, Virginia. In this capacity, he oversees the firm's investment activities, strategic direction, and client relationships, focusing on delivering tailored capital management solutions to institutional and individual investors.

He has significant expertise in private credit and acquisition financing, built on more than 30 years in the investment industry, including prior executive roles as Managing Partner and Co-CEO of Antares Capital and President & CEO of GE Antares Capital. Throughout his career, Martin has specialized in middle-market private equity sponsor finance, structured credit, and asset-based lending—key sectors in which Gate City Capital Management also engages.

Martin holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Notre Dame and has served on multiple industry advisory councils. Notably, he directed large-scale acquisitions and capital raises, including multibillion-dollar CLO issuances, and sits on prestigious boards such as the Executives Club of Chicago and other nonprofit organizations, underscoring his leadership and expertise in alternative credit and structured finance markets.
