Martin Alwin

Martin P. Alwin is a Senior Analyst at PL Capital Advisors, LLC, based in Chicago, IL. In this role, he specializes in equity investments in the banking and financial services sectors, with a focus on publicly traded U.S. banks and thrifts. He contributes to the firm’s fundamental research, portfolio management, and investment strategy, supporting PL Capital’s longstanding approach to value-driven, activist investments targeting the financial services industry.

Before joining PL Capital Advisors, Alwin was Vice President of Investment Banking at Piper Jaffray & Co., where he provided mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, and balance sheet advisory services exclusively for financial institutions. His career began at Raymond James Financial, Inc., giving him broad experience in both public and private financial institution transactions. He also serves as Principal and Managing Member of RISE Commercial Self-Storage Fund Managers, LLC, underscoring an additional focus on real assets in the self-storage industry.

Alwin holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a BA from Lawrence University. He has further distinguished himself through service on several bank boards, including Finward Bancorp and Community West Bancshares, and has served on audit committees, adding corporate governance and oversight expertise to his investment acumen.
