Vlad Barbalat

Vlad Barbalat is President and Chief Investment Officer at Liberty Mutual Investments, headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. In this capacity, he leads the investment operations for Liberty Mutual’s global property and casualty insurance business, overseeing more than $100 billion in assets across both private and public markets. His responsibilities include setting investment strategy, managing asset allocation, and steering the organization’s investment decision-making to support policyholder obligations and corporate growth.

Barbalat has a distinguished career in investment management, previously serving as Executive Managing Director and Co-Head of Strategy & Asset Allocation at Liberty Mutual Investments, and Head of Investment Strategy before that. Earlier in his career, he was a Managing Director in the Securities Division at Goldman Sachs and a Portfolio Manager at GMO, providing him with experience across multiple asset classes including fixed income, equities, private markets, real estate, and alternatives.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and Finance from New York University. Barbalat’s expertise spans portfolio strategy, risk management, and capital deployment in institutional settings, and he is recognized for his leadership in multi-asset investment across insurance and asset management sectors.
