Matthew Adams

Matthew Adams is the Portfolio Manager and Head of the US Investment Team at Orbis Investments, where he also serves on the US board of directors. Based in San Francisco, he leads a team that employs a long-term, fundamental, and contrarian investment philosophy across global equity portfolios, with a particular emphasis on US equities. His responsibilities include overseeing research, portfolio construction, and stock selection for US-domiciled strategies.

Adams focuses primarily on US equities, covering large-cap and mid-cap stocks across various sectors within the public equities market, in line with Orbis’s core active equity strategies. He is instrumental in driving the firm’s investment process and contributes to global equity research efforts by identifying opportunities across sectors through deep fundamental analysis.

Prior to joining Orbis in 2010, Adams served as an officer in the US Army, demonstrating leadership experience in high-pressure environments. He holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington, an M.Phil. in Engineering from the University of Cambridge as a Gates Scholar, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from West Point, graduating second in his class. His expertise is recognized in both the investment and nonprofit sectors, and he serves as a trustee of the Yosemite Conservancy, reflecting his commitment to conservation.
