Billy McCartney

Billy McCartney is the Managing Partner at Stone Ridge Asset Management, where he leads the firm’s initiatives in alternative asset management, specializing in innovative investment strategies uncorrelated with traditional markets. He plays a central role in Stone Ridge’s energy-focused platform, overseeing acquisitions, asset management, and financial structuring for portfolios that include large-scale physical and financial energy assets.

Prior to joining Stone Ridge, McCartney was the Founding and Managing Partner at Wincoram Asset Management, where he led the firm’s commercial origination and played a key role in building a market-leading energy investment platform through both physical and financial market expertise. Before Wincoram, he served as CEO of Flat Rock Development, gaining extensive leadership experience in operations and asset development across the energy value chain.

McCartney holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from West Virginia University. His expertise centers on energy sector investments—including renewables, power generation, and digital energy infrastructure—where he has overseen capital deployment for over 10 GW of energy assets and pioneered strategies in areas such as digital flare mitigation and power market arbitrage.
