Jeff Gates

Jeff Gates is Managing Partner at Gates Capital Management, Inc., a New York-based, event-driven alternative asset manager he founded in 1996. In his role, Gates leads the firm's investment committee, oversees portfolio strategy, and specializes in identifying 'dislocation events' and value opportunities across both debt and equity markets for institutional and private clients.

Gates is recognized for his expertise in high-yield bonds, post-restructuring equities, and event-driven investment strategies, having covered these asset classes since early in his career. His investment approach emphasizes situations involving significant corporate change, focusing particularly on high yield credit and equities impacted by restructuring or special situations within public companies.

Before founding Gates Capital Management, Gates served as Director at Schroder & Co., specializing in high-yield bonds and post-restructuring equities, and started his career as a research analyst in the high-yield group at Kidder, Peabody & Company. He holds an MBA from The Wharton School and a BS in Finance from Kansas State University, and has been honored for his philanthropic leadership and industry contributions, including induction into Kansas State University's Business Leaders Hall of Fame.
