Y Katherine Xu

Dr. Y. Katherine Xu is a Partner at Decheng Capital, a global investment firm specializing in life sciences, where she has served since May 2019. Based in New York, she leads investments in innovative biopharmaceutical and healthcare companies and serves on the boards of several portfolio companies, including Equillium Inc. Her primary focus areas are biopharmaceuticals, life sciences, and advanced healthcare technologies.

Before joining Decheng Capital, Dr. Xu was Partner, Senior Biotechnology Analyst, and Co-Group Head of Biopharmaceutical Equity Research at William Blair & Company in New York, where she developed a strong track record covering the biotechnology sector. Previously, she held senior equity research analyst roles at Wedbush Securities, Credit Suisse, and Pacific Growth Equities and was Vice President in investment banking at Petkevich & Partners, focusing on life sciences M&A and private financing.

Dr. Xu holds a PhD in Developmental Biology and a minor in Engineering-Economic Systems and Operations Research from Stanford University. She completed undergraduate studies in biochemistry at Peking University and earned her BA in Biology with honors from Kalamazoo College. Dr. Xu has received notable recognition for her analytical work, ranking among the top biotechnology stock pickers by Financial Times/StarMine and The Wall Street Journal and is actively involved in nonprofit leadership focused on science and cross-cultural exchange.
