John Mowrey

John Mowrey is the Chief Investment Officer, Executive Managing Director, and Senior Portfolio Manager/Analyst at NFJ Investment Group, an affiliate of Virtus Investment Partners. In this role, he is responsible for the overall investment policy, management of value equity portfolios, and the development and expansion of the firm’s investment team and research capabilities.

Mowrey’s expertise centers on value equity strategies, with a focus on identifying attractively valued, income-producing companies across a broad range of sectors, utilizing both fundamental analysis and advanced data analytics. He has led the integration of big data and programming skills within his analyst team to enhance stock selection and risk evaluation, employing methods based on Benjamin Graham’s value investing principles.

He began his investment career in 2006, joining NFJ in 2007, and ascended to CIO in 2016. Mowrey holds a B.A. in political science from Rhodes College and an M.B.A. from Southern Methodist University, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) charterholder. He is a recognized industry voice, frequently featured in major business media outlets, and has contributed to NFJ’s multiple Lipper award-winning strategies.
