Greg Murphy

Greg Murphy is the Managing Director and Head of Sustainability and Responsible Investing at Tortoise Capital Advisors (TortoiseEcofin), based in Overland Park, KS. In this role, he is responsible for leading the firm's sustainability and ESG investment strategies, executing its Sustainability & Impact Policy, and guiding firm-wide integration of responsible investment practices across asset classes and geographies. Murphy actively collaborates with investment teams to enhance impact measurement and reporting, and engages with portfolio companies to drive progress in environmental, social, and governance best practices.

Murphy’s expertise centers on sectors that address some of the world’s most urgent challenges—including energy transition, decarbonization of electric grids, water infrastructure, senior care, education access, and advancing the circular economy. His work is focused on investment strategies producing measurable positive outcomes beyond financial returns, such as social impact and sustainability metrics, particularly within listed equities, fixed income, and alternative investments.

Previously, Murphy served as TortoiseEcofin’s Head of Impact and as Institutional Client Portfolio Manager, and before joining Tortoise in 2015, he was an investment committee member and principal at Fountain Capital Management specializing in high-yield bonds and structured credit. He holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Kansas and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Economics from Trinity University. With more than 20 years of experience, Murphy is recognized for his leadership in sustainable finance and his ability to connect investment strategy with real-world social impact.
