Adam Coons

Adam Coons, CFA, is Chief Investment Officer at Winthrop Capital Management, LLC, based in Carmel near Indianapolis, Indiana. In his current role, Coons leads the investment committee and oversees the firm’s portfolio management, investment strategies, and security selection, with a particular focus on managing insurance assets for life and annuity companies and developing capital efficiency models and derivative hedging strategies. He is responsible for directing corporate strategy and has played a key role in expanding the firm’s insurance asset management capabilities and regulatory compliance expertise.

Coons specializes in the oversight and management of insurance portfolios, spanning asset classes such as equities, fixed income, and derivative instruments designed for risk management and capital efficiency. Through his leadership, Winthrop Capital Management has grown substantially, now managing $10 billion in assets for a broad client base that includes insurance companies and institutions. He is recognized in financial media, regularly appearing on CNBC, Bloomberg, and NYSE TV to discuss market trends, equity valuations, and fixed income landscape in the context of institutional investing.

Before his appointment as CIO in 2024, Coons was a portfolio manager at Winthrop Capital Management from 2013 to 2024, following an earlier stint as a commodities trader at Infinity Holdings LLC. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis and earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2018. Coons is an active industry participant, notably within the Indiana Actuarial Association, and was honored by Marquis Who’s Who for his expertise in investment management.
