Heath Freeman

Heath Freeman is President and co-founder of Alden Global Capital LLC, a New York-based investment firm where he oversees all investment strategies and portfolio management. In this capacity, Freeman is directly responsible for the firm's direction, including the acquisition and restructuring of media assets, and overall stewardship of Alden’s investments.

Freeman’s primary investment focus is on distressed assets, particularly in the newspaper and local media sectors; under his leadership, Alden has become the second largest newspaper owner in the United States, controlling companies such as Digital First Media and the New York Daily News. He is recognized for implementing aggressive cost management and consolidation strategies within these sectors, driving controversial yet highly influential transformations in American journalism.

Freeman co-founded Alden Global Capital with Randall Smith at the age of 26 after beginning his career at Peter J. Solomon Company, a boutique investment bank. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Duke University and is known for a hands-on, intensive management style in both private equity and public market investments.
