Derek Ferber

Derek Ferber is a Portfolio Manager at FJ Capital Management LLC, based in Arlington, VA. He joined the firm in 2013 and oversees investment research and portfolio management for the Financial Opportunity Fund, focusing on consolidation and growth opportunities within the U.S. community and regional banking sector, with particular expertise in Southern and Mid-Atlantic banks.

Prior to joining FJ Capital, Derek Ferber worked in equity research at Stifel, Nicolaus & Company, covering Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern community banks, and served as a Senior Research Analyst in the Financial Institutions Group at SNL Financial, specializing in banking M&A. Over his career, he has served on the boards of several regional banks, notably contributing to multiple successful transactions, including the sales of Beach Bank to First Bancshares, Centrue Financial Corporation to Midland States Bancorp, and Bank of the Carolinas to Bank of the Ozarks.

Mr. Ferber holds a BA in Economics from the University of Virginia. His investment focus is deeply rooted in U.S. financial services, primarily targeting small- to mid-sized banks, where his analytical acumen and board experience have established him as a sector specialist in banking industry investments and corporate transactions.
