Scott Cottrell

Scott Cottrell is a Portfolio Manager at FJ Capital Management LLC, based in Falls Church, VA. In his current role, he oversees investment research and portfolio management for the firm’s Financial Hybrid Opportunity Fund, focusing specifically on mid-west banks and the broader U.S. community and regional banking sector. His responsibilities include sourcing, analyzing, and managing investments across financial institutions, with deep expertise in the banking industry.

Scott brings over 25 years of experience in financial services, having previously served as a director at Northern States Financial Corporation (NSFC) and Floridian Community Bank, Inc. Prior to joining FJ Capital, he spent five years at Friedman, Billings Ramsey Group as an equity research analyst covering community banks and thrifts, and held earlier roles as a financial analyst at Servus Financial Corporation and credit analyst at National City Bank.

He holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance from Georgetown University and a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Accounting from Bowling Green State University. Scott is also a Certified Public Accountant, recognized for his detailed sector knowledge and contributions to investment research in financial services, especially within community and regional banks.
