Roy Behren

Roy Behren is Co-President and Chief Investment Officer at Westchester Capital Management, LLC, based in Valhalla, NY, an investment management affiliate of Virtus Investment Partners. He is also a co-portfolio manager at Westchester as well as at Westchester Capital Partners, LLC, where he leads the firm’s investment activities and overall strategy, serving as a key decision-maker for portfolio construction and risk management.

Behren is recognized for his deep expertise in merger arbitrage and event-driven strategies, primarily focusing on investments related to announced mergers, acquisitions, takeovers, and corporate reorganizations. As portfolio manager and board chairman for The Merger Fund, as well as the WCM Alternatives: Event Driven Fund, he specializes in exploiting inefficiencies in corporate event-driven situations, making him a specialist in event-driven equity investments.

With a career spanning over 35 years in the investment industry, Behren joined Westchester in 1994 following seven years as an enforcement attorney at the SEC’s New York Regional Office. He holds a BS in Economics from The Wharton School, a JD from the University of Miami Law School, and an LLM in Corporate Law from NYU. His notable career achievements also include serving as chief compliance officer and as a board and audit committee member for Redback Networks.
