Steven Tan

Steven V. Tan is a Managing Director, Portfolio Manager, Head of Credit Research, and Senior Equity Analyst at Westchester Capital Management, LLC, an investment management affiliate of Virtus Investment Partners based in New York. In his role, Tan oversees credit research and co-manages the firm’s credit event strategies, with a particular focus on event-driven and catalyst-oriented fixed income investments, including merger-related credit and distressed debt.

Tan’s investment expertise centers on credit event-driven strategies, covering sectors such as telecommunications, industrials, and technology—evidenced by significant portfolio holdings in companies like Lumen Technologies, CommScope, and AMS-OSRAM. He specializes in identifying and executing investments related to mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and bankruptcies, aiming to generate absolute returns with low duration and credit risk for institutional clients.

Before joining Westchester in 2012, Tan was Vice President and Senior Analyst at Avenue Capital, specializing in high yield, distressed, and event-driven strategies, and also served as a mergers and acquisitions analyst at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein. He has served on the board of MagnaChip Semiconductor and holds a B.A. in Mathematics and Economics from Wesleyan University as well as an MBA from Harvard Business School, marking a distinguished 25-year career in the investment industry.
