Yao Ooi

Yao Hua Ooi is a Principal at AQR Capital Management LLC, based in New York, where he leads the Macro and Multi-Strategy team. In this capacity, he oversees research and portfolio management across key quantitative strategies, including managed futures, risk parity, alternative risk premia, multi-strategy, multi-asset, and global macro products.

Ooi specializes in systematic and quantitative investment approaches, particularly within the macro, managed futures, and multi-strategy sectors. His expertise encompasses the development and application of trend-following and risk premia strategies that span a wide range of asset classes, including equities, fixed income, currencies, and commodities.

He joined AQR in 2004 after earlier experience as a fixed income analyst at UBS Securities. Yao Hua Ooi holds dual B.S. degrees in economics and engineering from the Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating summa cum laude. He is a recognized industry thought leader, with published research in leading finance journals and accolades including Morningstar's Alternatives Fund Manager of the Year for his work in managed futures and the Whitebox Prize for research on time series momentum.
