Abhi Patwardhan

Abhi Patwardhan is a Portfolio Manager and Co-Director of Research at First Pacific Advisors (FPA) in Los Angeles, CA, where he manages the FPA New Income Fund and the FPA Flexible Fixed Income Fund. In this role, he is responsible for leading investment strategy and research across FPA’s fixed income strategies, focusing on generating absolute returns and minimizing risk through deep, fundamental analysis and independent decision-making. His investment mandate is highly flexible, enabling allocation across the capital structure, sectors, geographies, and both investment-grade and below-investment-grade fixed income markets, as well as opportunistic equity allocations as needed.

Patwardhan’s sector expertise includes a broad range of fixed income asset classes, with particular focus on corporate bonds, asset-backed securities, mortgage-backed securities, and other credit instruments. He also participates in fund asset allocation and equity selection when compelling opportunities are identified. Prior to joining FPA in 2010, Patwardhan was an investment analyst at Reservoir Capital Group and D.B. Zwirn & Co., as well as an investment banking analyst at UBS Warburg and Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette.

Abhi Patwardhan holds both an MBA and a Bachelor of Science in Economics, summa cum laude, from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is recognized for his rigorous approach to risk management and contrarian, research-intensive portfolio management style. Patwardhan’s leadership has contributed to FPA's reputation for capital preservation and disciplined, value-oriented investing in the fixed income sector.
