Gary Wong

Gary Wong is Principal and Portfolio Manager – Institutional Clients at Leith Wheeler Investment Counsel Ltd., where he manages investment portfolios for a variety of institutional clients, including pension plans, government entities, universities, and not-for-profit organizations. His responsibilities include portfolio management, tailoring investment strategies to institutional objectives, and ongoing client servicing, with a focus on disciplined active management and opportunity identification in less-efficient markets.

Gary’s investment expertise centers on Canadian equities, global equities, and fixed income asset classes, with particular attention to sectors such as transportation, logistics, and real estate, drawing from his academic background. He also contributes to research and thought leadership in Canadian equity market strategy, highlighting active management’s potential for risk-adjusted outperformance, and ESG analysis with an emphasis on governance issues.

Prior to his current role, Gary progressed through several positions at Leith Wheeler, including Associate Portfolio Manager and Associate, Pensions and Institutions. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours from The University of British Columbia—double majoring in Transportation & Logistics and Real Estate—and has pursued further studies at HEC Paris and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Gary is recognized for his service to the investment community, including board leadership and mentorship activities.
