Akhilesh Kapoor

Akhilesh Kapoor is currently a Partner and Research Analyst specializing in ESG and Climate Change at Sanders Capital, LLC, based in Bernards, NJ. In this role, he leads research on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues, with a particular focus on integrating climate change considerations and sustainability factors across global equity and multi-asset investment strategies. He contributes to the firm’s value-driven investment process, identifying ESG risks and opportunities and informing portfolio decisions spanning multiple industries and asset classes, including equities, fixed income, and alternative investments.

Prior to joining Sanders Capital in 2021, Mr. Kapoor held senior leadership roles at AllianceBernstein as Senior Vice President and Senior Strategist for Climate Change and Responsible Investing, and earlier as a Senior Research Analyst, where he played a key role in shaping responsible investment frameworks, ESG research, and climate strategy for institutional portfolios (2008–2020). He brings additional experience from prior tenures at Honeywell Corporation as Senior Director of Strategy & Business Development, and as an Industry Expert – Resources and Industrials at McKinsey & Co, with a foundational career start in the chemicals sector and e-commerce ventures focused on industrial markets.

Mr. Kapoor holds an MBA in Strategy and Finance from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering as a DOE Scholar from Buffalo State University, and a B. Tech. in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He is recognized for his expertise at the intersection of engineering, climate science, and finance, and is noted for pioneering efforts in ESG integration, corporate engagement, and responsible investing across global capital markets.
