Paul Spence

Paul Spence is the Managing Director and Head of Portfolio Construction and Analytics at Sustainable Insight Capital Management, LLC (SICM) in Sydney, NSW. In this role, he is responsible for leading portfolio construction, quantitative risk modeling, and analytics with a particular focus on integrating sustainability and ESG considerations into the investment process. Spence’s expertise spans advanced statistical techniques, quantitative funds management, and data-driven investment strategies, with a focus on sustainable and ESG equities portfolios.

Prior to joining SICM, Spence held senior leadership roles including Managing Director of Portfolio Engineering and Analytics at DWS Investments and Head of Quantitative Analysis at Zurich Financial Services Australia. Over his career, he has specialized in global equities, ESG strategies, and portfolio risk analytics—helping institutional clients and asset managers to optimize performance and manage risk through innovative quantitative models. He is also recognized for his contributions to the development of performance measurement analytics and for leadership in integrating ESG factors into mainstream portfolio management.

Spence holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Mathematics) with majors in Pure and Applied Mathematics, Theoretical Statistics, and Physics from the University of Technology Sydney. His work has had substantial impact on the evolution of analytics and ESG integration in asset management, and he has been cited for his advanced application of quantitative research to real-world investment challenges, especially within global equities and sustainable investments.
