Kunal Ghosh

Kunal Ghosh is Chief Investment Officer, Senior Managing Director, and Portfolio Manager at Virtus Systematic, a division of Virtus Investment Partners, based in San Diego, CA. In this role since 2022, he oversees the firm’s systematic investment strategies, focusing on global quantitative equity solutions across asset classes and regions, leveraging advanced quantitative models and artificial intelligence to capture market inefficiencies.

Prior to Virtus, Ghosh was Managing Director and CIO of Systematic Equities at Allianz Global Investors from 2006 to 2022, where he specialized in systematic equity portfolio management and managed global, U.S., and international strategies. Earlier in his career, he held research and portfolio management roles at Barclays Global Investors and served as a quantitative analyst at the Cayuga Hedge Fund, building and implementing quantitative models for portfolio management.

Ghosh holds an MBA from Cornell University’s S.C. Johnson Graduate School of Management, an M.S. in materials engineering from the University of British Columbia, and a B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology. With more than 20 years of investment industry experience, he is recognized for contributions to the development of sophisticated quantitative equity investing frameworks and currently serves on the Investment Committee for the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance.
