Jon Baker

Jon Baker, CFA, is a Senior Equity Analyst at Weitz Investment Management in Omaha, Nebraska, where he has been an integral part of the investment team since 1997. In his role, he is responsible for identifying, researching, and monitoring investment opportunities with a focus on long-term value creation for Weitz Funds’ equity portfolios.

Baker’s investment expertise centers on the analysis of U.S. equities, particularly within sectors such as automotive retail (e.g., CarMax), industrials, and diversified consumer businesses, as evidenced by his research published on companies like CarMax (KMX) and HEICO Corporation. He is recognized for his rigorous approach to fundamental research, focusing on businesses he believes can deliver high returns over many years despite near-term market volatility.

Before joining Weitz, Jon audited equity funds as a certified public accountant for McGladrey & Pullen. He holds a bachelor's degree in accounting and computer applications from the University of Notre Dame. In addition to his professional work, he has served on the boards of Heart Ministry Center and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands, contributing to the Omaha nonprofit community.
