Ran Zhou

Ran Zhou is Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer at Electron Capital Partners, LLC, a $2.8 billion asset manager based in New York, NY. He assumed these roles in October 2023 following nearly two decades at Electron, where he started as an analyst in 2005 after earning his MA in Statistics from Columbia University. As CIO, Zhou oversees the firm’s long-short investment strategy, guiding a team of investment professionals and collaborating closely with co-partners to identify structural changes in energy markets and infrastructure.

Zhou's investment expertise focuses on utilities, alternative and renewable energy, energy transition infrastructure, traditional energy, and capital goods sectors. He directs research and portfolio management across these areas, with a particular emphasis on the implications of electrification, decarbonization, and rising global energy demands driven by themes like AI infrastructure. He and the team conduct extensive research including over 1,000 meetings annually with industry stakeholders, maintaining a broad investment universe spanning more than 700 stocks.

Before joining Electron Capital, Zhou graduated from Tsinghua University in Beijing with a BS in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, and is a two-time Bronze medalist in China’s National Olympic Mathematics Competition. Under his leadership, Electron Capital has achieved significant outperformance in turbulent market conditions and successfully managed a major succession event, ensuring continued long-term relationships with institutional investors and emphasizing a team-driven investment approach.
