Ali Motamed

Ali Motamed is the Founder, Managing Partner, and Portfolio Manager of Invenomic Capital Management LP, based in Boston, MA. At Invenomic, he leads the firm’s investment strategy and daily operations, overseeing a diversified portfolio focused predominantly on U.S. long and short equity investments. He employs a disciplined, fundamentally driven research process that combines quantitative screening and deep fundamental analysis to identify compelling long and short ideas across the U.S. equity market.

Motamed’s investment approach is characterized as value-biased, sector-agnostic, and all-cap, with a clear focus on sustainable free cash flow generation, consistent earnings, and prudent capital deployment. The portfolios he manages include diversified holdings in both long and short positions, aiming to add value regardless of prevailing market conditions, and often utilizing rigorous risk management and disciplined short selling — targeting concept stocks, deteriorating businesses, and firms with unsustainable valuations.

Prior to founding Invenomic in 2016, Motamed was the Co-Portfolio Manager of the Boston Partners Long/Short Equity Fund, where he earned Morningstar’s Portfolio Manager of the Year award in the Alternatives Category in 2014. He began his career in global M&A at Deutsche Bank and BT Wolfensohn. Motamed holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, a B.A. in Economics with a minor in Accounting from UCLA, and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, reflecting over twenty years of experience in institutional investment management.
