Art Merriman

Art Merriman is Principal and Senior Portfolio Manager at Carnegie Investment Counsel (also referenced as Carnegie Capital Asset Management LLC), where he brings over 30 years of investment management experience to his role since joining in 2014. At Carnegie, he is responsible for constructing, managing, and overseeing custom portfolios for individual and institutional clients, emphasizing a fiduciary approach tailored to client needs. His specific investment focus includes stocks, bonds, and option strategies, notably in the management of income-oriented portfolios and using option writing to enhance returns, as demonstrated during his tenure co-managing the Dividend Plus mutual fund at MAI Capital Management.

Prior to Carnegie, Art served as Managing Director at MAI Capital Management, where he was instrumental in the development and management of equity income strategies, and spent 14 years as Senior Vice President at Stifel Financial Corp., providing advisory services across equities, fixed income, and options. His expertise encompasses portfolio structure, risk management, and behavioral finance, areas in which he has published educational content for investors.

Art earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Bowdoin College and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), as well as a member of the CFA Society of Cleveland. He is recognized for his disciplined, research-driven approach to portfolio management and his commitment to educating clients on long-term investment behavior and risk mitigation.
