David Johnson

David Johnson, CFA, age 50, is the Director and Senior Fixed Income Municipal Credit Analyst at Sterling Capital Management LLC, based in Raleigh, NC. In his current role, he specializes in municipal fixed income securities, performing comprehensive credit analysis and investment research to support the firm’s portfolio management and strategy for municipal bond investments.

David focuses specifically on the municipal fixed income sector, covering credit analysis of local and state government issuers, and is recognized for his expertise in the assessment and selection of tax-exempt securities and municipal bonds. He joined Sterling Capital in 2010 following its merger with BB&T Asset Management, where he started in 2004, and previously worked for Evergreen Investment Management Company.

He holds a B.S.B.A. in Marketing and Management from Appalachian State University and an M.B.A. from East Carolina University. David is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and active member of several professional organizations, including the Southern Municipal Finance Society and the CFA Society North Carolina. He has over 25 years of investment experience and serves on the board of the Southern Municipal Finance Society, reflecting his significant contributions and standing within the municipal credit analysis field.
