About
Bhavin Dhanani is the Head of Total Portfolio Management at USS Investment Management, the investment arm of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS), where he leads the team responsible for supporting asset allocation and investment strategy across both Defined Benefit (DB) and Defined Contribution (DC) schemes. In this role, he develops and implements total portfolio investment approaches, manages portfolio exposures, and translates strategic asset allocation decisions into actionable investment plans, reporting directly to the Asset Allocation Committee.
His specific investment focus encompasses multi-asset portfolio management, with direct expertise in asset allocation across public and private markets, as well as experience overseeing fixed income external manager selection and portfolio risk management. Prior to his current responsibilities, Bhavin worked for four years in the external manager selection team at USS, especially covering the fixed income space, and before that began his USSIM tenure as an investment risk analyst.
Bhavin started his career as a risk analyst with Goldman Sachs Asset Management and holds an undergraduate degree in Banking and International Finance from Cass Business School (now Bayes Business School), as well as the CFA designation. He is recognized for his thought leadership in portfolio innovation, notably in leading the design and execution of USS's hybrid DB-DC investment solutions, and actively contributes to industry discussions on evolving pension and portfolio management strategies.
