Sean Harmon

Sean Harmon is Vice President and Head Trader at Advisory Research Investment Management, a Chicago-based asset manager. In this role, he is responsible for leading trading operations, overseeing execution strategy, and managing portfolio liquidity for the firm’s investment products. He possesses over 16 years of investment industry experience and is recognized for his expertise in equity trading within both domestic and international markets.

Prior to joining Advisory Research in 2024, Sean served as Vice President and Senior Trader at RMB Capital, where he honed his skills in multi-asset class trading and contributed to the efficient management of client portfolios. His background includes additional trading roles focused on equities and alternative investments, giving him a comprehensive understanding of sectors such as industrials, financials, and consumer discretionary, which align with Advisory Research’s investment strategies.

Sean holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with a minor in Business Administration from John Carroll University, and has also studied at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM). His proven leadership and strategic approach to trading have positioned him as a key contributor to the development and execution of Advisory Research’s investment philosophy, which emphasizes owning businesses with sustainable competitive advantages and management teams with aligned incentives.
