Steve Stelmach

Steve Stelmach is a Senior Managing Director and Portfolio Manager at EJF Capital LLC in Arlington, VA. In this leadership role, he is responsible for managing investment strategies with a particular focus on U.S. and residential housing opportunities as well as the insurance sector. He has played a key role in the analysis and management of EJF’s tactical opportunities and real estate practices, leveraging his expertise across both liquid and structured asset classes.

Steve’s professional background spans more than two decades, including twelve years at FBR, where he was a senior analyst in the financial services research group covering banking, mortgage, insurance, homebuilding, broker-dealer, and single-family rental sectors. Earlier, he gained experience in equity research at UBS Securities, covering mid- and large-cap banks, and Thomson Financial. He has been recognized for his analytical excellence, including the No. 2 overall equity analyst ranking and No. 1 in home construction and furnishings by The Wall Street Journal’s Best on the Street awards.

Stelmach holds a BS in Finance from the University of Maryland. He is also an accomplished industry voice, having testified before the U.S. House of Representatives on housing policy and advised multiple government agencies on capital markets regulation. His work has contributed notably to sector intelligence and investment decision-making within the financial services and housing industries.
