James Amen

James Amen is Managing Director and Partner at PhiloSmith Capital Corp, based in Stamford, CT, where he leads both the investment management and corporate finance divisions. His responsibilities include overseeing asset management, advising clients on mergers and acquisitions, and structuring strategic transactions and long-range capital planning initiatives, with a firm-wide focus on insurance and financial services sectors.

Amen specializes in advising insurance underwriters, agents, brokers, and financial services companies on M&A, equity/debt placements, valuation, and strategic planning. He has completed over 100 transactions for clients, leveraging deep expertise in financial analysis and industry-specific deal structuring within insurance and related asset classes.

He began his career at AT&T Corp. and Bear Stearns before joining PhiloSmith in 1988, and holds a BA in Economics and Computer Science from the State University of New York, as well as an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. Amen is recognized in the investment industry for his specialized knowledge in insurance M&A and asset management, driving the firm’s reputation as a top independent advisor to insurance and financial services organizations.
