Samuel Reid

Samuel Reid is a Partner at Canyon Partners, LLC and serves as Portfolio Manager for the River Canyon funds, focusing on alternative credit strategies and resilient fixed income solutions. He leads the management of the River Canyon Total Return Bond Fund, directing investments across sectors such as structured credit, high-yield bonds, securitized assets, and collateralized loan obligations (CLOs), with an emphasis on rigorous security selection and quality underwriting.

Reid’s career began at JPMorgan Chase & Co., where he spent seven years as an Associate in Structured Credit Sales and later as Vice President of High Yield Trading, specializing in trading CDS and high yield bonds in both market-making and proprietary roles. Since joining Canyon Partners in 2008, he has also held the role of Head Debt Trader, overseeing trading for the firm’s global credit platform before advancing to his current leadership roles.

A graduate of Georgetown University with a dual B.S. in International Business and Finance, Reid is also a CFA charterholder. Recognized for his expertise in credit and structured products, he has been noted for contributions to portfolio resilience in volatile markets and is a frequent commentator on the opportunities and risks within public and securitized credit markets.
