Brian Meyer

Brian Meyer is a Partner, Chief Operating Officer, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at Fir Tree Partners, a New York-based alternative investment firm where he supervises legal compliance, operational risk, human resources, and regulatory matters. He is instrumental in firm-wide governance and strategic initiatives, notably leading Fir Tree’s adoption of technology-driven legal operations and crisis response capabilities. His responsibilities encompass fund compliance and operational efficiencies across hedge funds and private equity platforms, with the firm’s investment activity including distressed debt, real estate, and event-driven strategies.

Meyer holds a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, where he was Executive Editor of the California Law Review, and an A.B. in History magna cum laude from UC Berkeley. Before Fir Tree, he was managing director at Veronis Suhler Stevenson, a media-focused private equity firm, general counsel for The Official Information Company, senior corporate counsel at Revlon, and began his legal career with Latham & Watkins and Milbank specializing in M&A, securities, and private equity transactions.

He is recognized for his thought leadership in legal operations, regularly publishing articles and speaking at major industry events on fund compliance and automation. Under his direction, Fir Tree's legal department won the Association of Corporate Counsel’s 2020 Value Champion award for innovation in legal efficiency. Meyer has made significant contributions to the investment management industry, with expertise spanning hedge fund structuring, private equity management, distressed assets, M&A, and compliance technology.
