Matt Osowiecki

Matt Osowiecki is the Co-Chief Investment Officer at Water Island Capital LLC, based in New York, where he oversees all aspects of the firm’s investment strategies and continues to serve as portfolio manager on several of the firm's flagship funds, including the Arbitrage Fund and the Water Island Event-Driven Fund. In this capacity, he is responsible for driving the firm's research, risk management, and capital preservation while delivering non-correlated return streams to clients, with a particular expertise in event-driven and merger arbitrage strategies.

Osowiecki's focus is on event-driven equity investments, especially in merger arbitrage and other event-driven asset classes, where he leverages more than 15 years of experience in analyzing complex corporate actions, crafting hedging strategies, and managing risk. He joined Water Island Capital in 2007 as an analyst and was promoted to portfolio manager in 2016; he was also pivotal in establishing the firm’s presence in London and is recognized for his institutional knowledge, technical skill, and leadership in the alternative investments sector.

Before Water Island Capital, Osowiecki worked in the Investment Product Division at The Hartford and as a project manager in commercial real estate development. He holds a BS from the University of Connecticut. Osowiecki’s contributions to the investment industry include not only his leadership in developing event-driven strategies for clients but also his role in shaping firm culture and commitment to innovating within the alternative investments space.
