Geoffrey Mavar

Geoffrey Mavar is a Principal and co-founder of Chickasaw Capital Management, LLC, based in Memphis, TN. He serves on the firm’s Investment Committee and plays a key leadership role in guiding investment strategy, risk management, and client relations. Mavar is also Chairman, Treasurer, and Chief Financial Officer of the MainGate MLP Fund, which is closely associated with the firm’s focus on Master Limited Partnerships (MLPs) and midstream energy infrastructure investments.

His primary investment focus is on the midstream energy sector, specifically Master Limited Partnerships (MLPs) and related energy infrastructure assets. Mavar began managing midstream assets on a discretionary basis during his tenure at Goldman Sachs and has extensive experience in both MLP IPOs and secondary financings, contributing meaningfully to the evolution of the MLP investment market.

Before founding Chickasaw Capital Management, Mavar spent 11 years at Goldman Sachs & Co., where he rose to the rank of Vice President. He holds a B.A. from The University of Mississippi (1984) and an MBA in Finance from the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University (1990), and has served on Vanderbilt’s Business School Alumni Board of Directors. Mavar is widely recognized for his expertise in MLPs and midstream energy and for his longstanding contributions to the sector’s development.
