Ed Mathers

Ed Mathers is a Partner at New Enterprise Associates (NEA) based in Bethesda, MD, where he specializes in biotechnology and specialty pharmaceuticals investments. At NEA since 2008, Mathers leads investments and serves on boards of multiple biotech and pharmaceutical companies, with a focus on gene therapy, RNA editing, immunology, and cutting-edge healthcare technologies.

Before joining NEA, Mathers was Executive Vice President, Corporate Development and Venture at MedImmune, where he played a key role in the $15.6 billion sale of the company to AstraZeneca and led MedImmune Ventures. His prior experience includes senior positions at Inhale Therapeutic Systems and a 15-year tenure in sales and marketing at Glaxo Wellcome (now GSK).

Mathers earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from North Carolina State University, contributing deep scientific expertise to his investment approach. He is recognized for successful exits involving companies acquired by major pharmaceutical firms and has made significant contributions to the advancement of transformative healthcare technologies and company-building in the biotech sector.
