John Calamos

John P. Calamos, Sr. is the Founder, Chairman, and Global Chief Investment Officer of Calamos Investments, a global asset management firm headquartered in the Chicago area. In this role, he leads the firm’s investment strategy and research processes, focusing on delivering superior risk-adjusted returns for a wide range of institutional and individual clients worldwide. As CIO, he directs the firm’s portfolio management teams and is responsible for product innovation across alternative, convertible, equity, and fixed income strategies.

Calamos is widely recognized as a pioneer in convertible securities, having launched one of the first convertible funds in 1985 and one of the first liquid alternative funds in 1990. His investment expertise spans convertible bonds, liquid alternatives, global equities, and fixed income, with a strong emphasis on risk-managed solutions to preserve capital and build wealth through full market cycles. Under his leadership, Calamos Investments has been at the forefront of developing innovative strategies for both volatile and stable market environments.

Holding a BA in Economics and an MBA in Finance from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Calamos is also active in philanthropy, serving as Chairman of the National Hellenic Museum and a Board Member for The Hellenic Initiative. He is a decorated Air Force veteran, published author on convertible strategies, frequent industry speaker, and has received numerous honors for his contributions to both business and the community.
