Matt Freund

Matt Freund is Co-Chief Investment Officer and Head of Fixed Income Strategies at Calamos Investments, where he oversees investment team resources, processes, risk management, and performance across a diverse range of fixed income and equity mutual funds and ETFs. He is a senior portfolio manager and serves on the Calamos Investment Committee, playing a key role in developing the firm's top-down investment framework and evaluating oversight metrics. Matt’s specific investment expertise lies in fixed income strategies, managing portfolios that include investment-grade bonds, credit, and multi-sector income solutions. He has led and contributed to the management of both taxable and municipal fixed income, as well as insurance-related asset classes and multi-asset portfolios, leveraging more than three decades of industry knowledge.

Prior to joining Calamos in 2016, Matt was the Chief Investment Officer at USAA Investments, responsible for managing mutual funds, insurance-related portfolios, and leading teams overseeing over $140 billion in assets. His career also includes senior portfolio management roles and analyst experience at MetLife's Capital Markets Group, with a recognized track record in managing highly regarded fixed income mutual funds. He holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance and Investments from Indiana University Bloomington, and a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Franklin & Marshall College. Matt is widely recognized for his contributions to fixed income portfolio management, investment process innovation, and leadership in the investment industry.
