Joel Ray

Joel Ray, CFA, is a Senior Vice President and Senior Research Analyst at Davenport & Company LLC, based in Richmond, VA. He leads equity research with a primary focus on the industrial and healthcare sectors, shaping investment strategy and overseeing sector-specific research coverage. His responsibilities include in-depth analysis of industry trends and company fundamentals within these verticals to support the firm's institutional and private clients.

Ray joined Davenport in 2004, becoming Director of Equity Research and a member of the Investment Policy Committee. His earlier career includes leadership as Senior Vice President of Research at Wachovia Securities, where he was recognized as the No. 1 healthcare analyst in the Wall Street Journal’s "Best on the Street" rankings in 2001. He also brings research and management experience from J.C. Bradford, Smith Barney, and Kidder Peabody, dating back to his entry into the securities industry in 1981.

He holds a BA in Biology from Colgate University and an MBA in Health Care Management from Cornell University. Known for his expertise in healthcare and industrial equities, Ray has earned a reputation for rigorous analysis and industry leadership throughout a four-decade investment career.
