John Miller

John Miller is Chief Investment Officer and Head of the Municipal Credit Team at First Eagle Investments, based in Chicago. He leads First Eagle’s high yield municipal credit capabilities, overseeing the firm's expansion into the municipal bond sector with a focus on high yield and speculative-grade municipal bonds. Miller joined First Eagle in January 2024 and reports directly to the firm's CEO.

With nearly three decades of experience in municipal finance, Miller previously served as Head of Municipals at Nuveen, where he managed one of the industry’s largest high yield municipal platforms. During his tenure, he was directly responsible for managing over $35 billion in client assets, including the flagship $18 billion Nuveen High Yield Municipal Bond Fund, and oversaw a total municipal platform of roughly $190 billion. His expertise centers on high yield municipals, with a reputation for fundamental, bottom-up credit research and portfolio construction in the municipal sector.

Miller holds an MBA in Finance with Honors from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, a Master’s in Economics from Northwestern University, and dual bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Political Science from Duke University. He is widely recognized for his achievements in building and leading top municipal credit strategies, delivering innovative solutions to institutional and retail investors, and shaping the high yield municipal asset class.
