Richard Hayes

Richard Hayes is a Managing Partner at Jasper Ridge Partners, where he co-leads the firm's private equity and venture capital team. Based at the Menlo Park office, Hayes oversees strategy for sourcing, evaluating, and managing global private equity, growth, and venture capital investments. His leadership extends across portfolio construction, direct deals, co-investments, and secondary opportunities for prominent families, foundations, and institutional clients.

Hayes has more than 30 years of experience and has invested and managed over $40 billion in private markets, building innovative and large strategic relationships across all private asset investment types. Prior to joining Jasper Ridge in 2004, he served as Senior Investment Officer for the Alternative Investment Management Program at CalPERS, where he was part of the senior team responsible for managing the multi-hundred-billion-dollar portfolio of the largest U.S. pension fund. Hayes was also the founding Board Chairman of the Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA), significantly impacting private equity industry standards and best practices.

He holds a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Stanford University. Widely recognized for his industry leadership, Hayes was named one of Private Equity International’s “100 Most Influential People of the Decade.” His primary expertise centers on global private equity, growth equity, and venture capital investments, with a history of delivering innovative, risk-managed solutions for sophisticated investors.
