Julia Zhu

Julia Zhu is a Research Analyst at Matthews International Capital Management LLC (Matthews Asia), where she specializes in conducting in-depth research on Chinese macroeconomics, politics, and the fixed income sector. Her role focuses on identifying investment opportunities within China and broader Asia, leveraging fundamental, bottom-up analysis and on-the-ground due diligence to generate actionable investment insights for institutional portfolios.

Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2014, Julia spent 12 years in Beijing as a Research Analyst for CLSA, where she covered a wide range of industries, with a strong emphasis on Chinese corporate and sovereign fixed income markets. Her experience also includes early work as an Assistant Auditor at the Qingdao Municipal Audit Office, strengthening her expertise in balance sheet analysis and issuer due diligence.

Julia holds an M.B.A. from Fordham University and a Bachelor of Economics from Tianjin Nankai University. She is fluent in Mandarin and conversational in Shanghainese, contributing to her ability to source unique insights from the Chinese financial landscape. She is recognized for her rigorous fundamental research process, particularly in the areas of China onshore bonds, convertible bonds, and macroeconomic trends affecting China's fixed income market.
