Swagato Ghosh

Swagato Ghosh is a Portfolio Manager at Matthews International Capital Management LLC, based in Hong Kong, where he co-manages the firm’s India Strategy, including the Matthews India Fund and the Matthews India Active ETF. His key responsibilities focus on overseeing investment portfolios that seek long-term capital appreciation by investing primarily in publicly traded companies with substantial ties to India, covering sectors such as banks, software & computer services, finance & credit services, personal goods, pharmaceuticals, automobiles & parts, construction & materials, and consumer discretionary.

Before joining Matthews in 2022, Ghosh was an investment analyst at Franklin Templeton India, where he led research for the cement, real estate, and consumer discretionary sectors. From 2016 to 2018, he researched the U.S. healthcare sector as an investment analyst at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, and earlier worked as an equity research analyst at Jefferies India. This diverse background brings strong expertise in both India and global equities to his current role.

Ghosh holds a B.Tech in Mining Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. He is licensed for regulated investment activities by the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission and is fluent in Hindi and Bengali. His significant contributions include leading sector-focused research and driving investment performance across multiple asset classes, with a specialized focus on Indian equities and emerging markets.
