Jake Thomsen

Jake Thomsen is Managing Partner for Venture Capital at Sovereign's Capital, based in Durham, North Carolina. In this role, he leads the firm's investments in early-stage technology companies, focusing on startup founders who combine top-tier financial ambition with a mission-driven approach. His responsibilities include sourcing, evaluating, and partnering with Seed and Series A-stage ventures in the U.S. and Southeast Asia, with a concentration in sectors such as B2B and B2C software, healthtech, deep tech, and tech-enabled services.

Prior to joining Sovereign's Capital, Thomsen held roles in strategic consulting and innovation management, including positions as Lead Associate and Manager in the Strategic Innovation Group at Booz Allen Hamilton, and as an MBA Financial Analyst at 8 Rivers Capital. His background spans operational and advisory experience with both startups and public companies, giving him a robust perspective on venture investing.

Jake Thomsen holds an MBA in Corporate Finance and Energy & Environment from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business and an MPP in International Development & Energy/Environment Policy from Duke's Sanford School of Public Policy. He also completed studies in Social Entrepreneurship and Global Carbon Markets at Trinity Forum Academy and earned a BA in Economics from Pomona College. Through his work, Thomsen has contributed to building a community of faith-driven entrepreneurs and has advanced investment excellence and impact in innovation-driven markets.
